How to benefit from joining the conversation

Anna Farmery lists ten ways brands can benefit from joining the conversation online. These apply, too, to your small or medium-sized organization. My favorite is #10:
Understand that value should be placed on leaders/managers who can build relationships, inspire to action, communciate, take decisions,....i.e more emphasis on emotional intelligence as a reason for promotion.
It goes back to connectedness and building relationships. Communicating is an ongoing 2-way process, not a 1-time, 1-way effort. Conversing with people online is the best way to plant seeds that turn into ongoing relationships. And relationships are good for your organization.

Glad that you enjoyed the post - I agree with No 10 as it is so often the overlooked one of the group. We choose people outside of work because of their ability to connect with us, their shared values, their relationship building skills - it always amazes me that we forget that within work!

I have a theory that we've made such an effort to separate our work lives and our personal lives, we've forgotten all the little social niceties that make our personal lives successful. Somehow, we know it's good to be nice to people all the time in our personal lives. But we think we've been conditioned to think we only need to be nice to our customers (or clients, or donors) when we can get something in return.
